Two years ago, the Kitty Andersen Youth Science Center began a strategic planning process to answer the question "What do we want to see in place for youth in the next 2-3 years."
To answer this question, we began with an Environmental Scan: getting input from youth, parents, Science Museum of Minnesota staff, Andersen Advisory Board members, and community partners.
Facilitation was led by The Dendros Group, a consulting firm in St. Paul with a strong emphasis on participation and facilitative leadership.
From the data collection, we developed a Vision:
Once our Vision was developed, we came up with Obstacles that would prevent us from reaching our Vision.
Once our Obstacles were developed, we began creating our Strategic Directions to lead us into implementation of our goals.
Implementation teams are currently working hard to implement big ideas and changes in the KAYSC.
The Investing in Staff and Systems team works to strengthen support systems and provide professional development for KAYSC staff.
The Strengthening Development and Communication team promotes the KAYSC, strengthens development and grant writing, and raises funds for designated needs.
The Enhancing Youth Experience and Opportunities team extends the KAYSC program, expands youth governance and communication, and develops big, innovative program ideas.
The Core Program and Program Accountability sets standards ensure that the KAYSC aligns with partnerships, youth development and educational philosophy.
